We’re offering another year of Nature School! Each class will include a structured learning activity on a particular topic and an exploratory nature walk. For example, in the past we studied vultures, bird eggs and nests, leaf identification, beaver dams, and more. We will repeat some topics from the 2021-2022 school year, but we will approach them from a new angle or do a new activity, so we invite returning and new Nature School students alike to sign up! Nature School will take place every other Wednesday from 9Am to 12 noon on the following dates: September 7, September 21, October 5, October 19, November 2, November 16, November 30, December 14, January 4, January 18, February 1, February 15, March 1, March 15, March 29, April 12, April 26, and May 10.

Registration Notes: *If you are purchasing tickets for multiple students, please write all of their names together in the same box, i.e. “Sam, Martie, and Alex Bradshaw” when registering.  The form does not give you separate spaces to enter different names for each ticket.* Please also note that we are changing the age range for Nature School from K-5 to Grades 1-5. Thank you for your understanding!

Cost: $180 ($145 for Friends of the Clifton Institute)

Age: Children in grades 1-5, drop-off only.

Bring: Please bring a small backpack packed with a full water bottle and snack. We also recommend a small towel, seat pad, or piece of tarp to sit on on the trail.

Weather policy: Rain or shine except in case of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorm or significant snow fall).

COVID-19 Information: This program will be entirely outdoors (an outside porta potty will be available). At the moment, we are requiring that everyone have a mask with them in case we need to go inside during inclement weather, to administer first aid, or for other reasons. Please do not attend if you are experiencing or have experienced in the last two weeks any symptoms associated with COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.). We will monitor the situation as we get closer to fall and may loosen this requirement.

Registration is REQUIRED. Please note that our registration system will likely only give you the space for one attendee. If you are registering for multiple children, please put all of their first names in the First Name box. Thank you!

Cancellation policy: If you register and can no longer attend this event, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can open your spot to someone else. No refunds will be given upon registrant cancellation. No refunds will be given for any missed classes.

By registering for this event, you are affirming that you have read and agree to our liability release policy.

This series, which takes place between January and May, is a chance for young students to dip their toes into 10 different topics as we watch the land around us become green again! Each session will include time spent journaling, learning about science, and going on a hike. The younger group will also be read a story.

Students are expected to bring their own snacks, water, and backpack but all other materials will be provided. We will divide into two groups split roughly by age for most of the time, to allow for students to engage in activities that are appropriately challenging. Therefore, we ask that students come prepared for the possibility of being in a different group from their siblings. We also ask that children who are not yet in kindergarten or who will be uncomfortable being away from a caregiver participate in our Piedmont Polliwogs programs. We are outside for the duration of every session, rain or shine, so dress for the weather!

We will meet every other Wednesday from 9:00AM to 12:00PM on the following dates:

January 5

January 19

February 2

February 16

March 2

March 16

March 30

April 13

April 27

May 11
