Landowner Outreach Program
Our Landowner Outreach Associate, Kadiera Ingram, is available to do free property visits in northern and central Virginia and Washington, D.C. She gives advice on how to manage your land to benefit native plants and animals, with an emphasis on wildflower meadows and grassland restoration.
Why We Conduct Property Visits
At the Clifton Institute, we believe that the first step to enhancing any property’s ecological value is to develop a clear understanding of the landowner’s priorities while carefully observing existing features in the landscape. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to habitat restoration and land management – every landscape is different and every landowner has different goals.
By conducting free property visits, we are able to provide advice that is tailored to individual properties and landholders. Whether you are just beginning to explore conservation and habitat management on your land, or you’re an experienced Weed Warrior looking to improve your invasive species management efforts – we are happy to provide guidance across a range of land management goals.
We offer pragmatic advice to farmers, landowners, and public lands managers that helps people strike the balance between economics and biodiversity.
How Our Property Visits Work
After the visit, we will write you a detailed summary letter, outlining key advice and recommendations discussed during the visit.
We’re happy to answer questions and connect you with available resources to help you achieve your goals. In addition to conducting visits, we arrange quarterly meetings for landowners where they can connect and discuss their conservation challenges and successes. We also hold landowner workshops throughout the year on topics such as native seed collection and invasive species management. And we host an email listserve where landowners can ask each other management questions.
