Homeschool Day: Bugs!

May 21, 2027 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

- $5.00

This is a program designed for Homeschool families to take a field trip to Clifton! Staff instructors will lead participants through identification of native plant and animal species, a hike, and reflection activities about a seasonal phenomenon. Participants will be split into 2 even-sized groups roughly by age for the walking portion (such that older students go farther and collect slightly more complicated data). Families are welcome (and encouraged!) to bring a picnic lunch to eat after the program. There are 6 wooden picnic tables on the front lawn overlooking the pond.

When you register below, please register and pay for the number of children you expect to participate in the class! You can think about this through the lens of: will my child want to use the materials that they see the other kids using (magnifying lenses, binoculars, etc.)? We want to ensure we have enough for all children who would like to participate. For example, a babe-in-arms we do not consider a participant! All adults are always free and must remain on site but don’t necessarily have to stick with the group. Parents are welcome to stay on the lawn while instructors take students out into the field. Trails here are hilly, bumpy, and usually grass or dirt so not suitable for most strollers.

Registration Notes: *If you are purchasing tickets for multiple students, please write all of their names together in the same box, i.e. “Sam, Martie, and Alex Bradshaw” when registering. The form does not give you separate spaces to enter different names for each ticket, unfortunately.*

Cost: $5 per participant. Cost will be refunded to participants and the program canceled if fewer than 10 students register.

Age: Youth ages 5 – 18, must attend with an adult.

Bring: Please bring a water bottle and snack, plus an optional picnic lunch for after the program.

Weather policy: Rain or shine except in case of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorm or significant snowfall).

Registration is REQUIRED.

Cancellation policy: If you register and can no longer attend this series, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can open your spot to someone else. No refunds will be given upon registrant cancellation within 1 week of the program.

We look forward to seeing you at the Clifton Institute!
