Nature Club is a program where middle and high school students who are interested in the natural world can spend time in a nerd-friendly environment. If they like bones, insects, tools, plants, fungi, research, or simply to be outdoors, then they have found their people.

The club meets on the second Saturday of every month throughout the school year. In the 2024-25 year, we will be focusing on the three tenants of our work at Clifton: Research, Restoration, and Education. Members will help various Clifton staff with what they do around the field station–propagating plants, building structures, removing invasive species, studying turtles and kestrels, and making educational materials. There will be a chance for students to share their work with the families at the final gathering in May!

Nature Club meets from 1-3:30 PM on the following dates: September 14, October 12, November 9, December 14, January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, May 10.

Scholarship Opportunity: We have 5 full merit-based scholarships available. To apply, please fill out our Scholarship Application Google Form by September 5th, 2024. Wait to register until you have heard back from Bridget (she will register you so you will not have to pay the program fee). If you have any questions, please email Bridget Bradshaw (bbradshaw@cliftoninstitute.org)

Registration Notes: *If you are purchasing tickets for multiple students, please write all of their names together in the same box, i.e. “Sam, Martie, and Alex Bradshaw” when registering. The form does not give you separate spaces to enter different names for each ticket.*

Cost: $125 per student ($100 for Friends of the Clifton Institute)

Age: Youth grades 7-12; this program is drop off only.

Bring: Please bring a water bottle and snack.

Weather policy: Rain or shine except in case of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorm or significant snowfall).

Registration is REQUIRED.

Cancellation policy: If you register and can no longer attend this series, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can open your spot to someone else. No refunds will be given upon registrant cancellation within 1 month of the program’s start date. No refunds will be given for any missed programs. By registering for this event, you are affirming that you have read and agree to our liability release policy.

We look forward to seeing you at the Clifton Institute!

We look forward to seeing you at the Clifton Institute!

Over 9 sessions beginning in September and running through May, the members of Nature Club will work together to create a map of an uncharted piece of the Clifton Institute and build a trail that runs through it. The project will culminate in an unveiling party for the new trail led by the students themselves.  This is a chance for interested, motivated naturalists to discover corners of the property that not even the staff have seen!  We will focus on new skills each month including cartography, compass-work, and plant ID.  By working in the same patch of woods each session and watching it change with the onset of spring, students will have the opportunity to feel deep connection to a piece of land. Nature Club will meet on the first Saturday of each month 1-3PM on the following dates:

September 3

October 1

November 5

December 3

January 7

February 4

March 4

April 1

May 6- Unveiling Party!

Cost: $90 ($72 for Friends of the Clifton Institute)

Age: Youth grades 7-12; this program is drop off only.

Weather policy: Rain or shine except in case of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorm or significant snow fall). Please check your email for updates on the morning of the event.

COVID-19 Information: This program will be entirely outdoors (an outside port-o-potty will be available). We require that everyone have a mask with them in case we need to go inside during inclement weather, to administer first aid, or for other reasons. Please do not attend if you are experiencing or have experienced in the last two weeks any symptoms associated with COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.).

Registration is REQUIRED. No refunds will be given upon registrant cancellation.
