DESCRIPTION:The American Woodcock is one of our stealthiest birds, but it’s also one of the most fun to watch when they do show themselves. On early spring evenings, the males perform their mating displays, flying high into the air and falling back to the ground, making calls and sounds with their wings as they do so.

Join us for a short walk – co-hosted by Bull Run Mountains Conservancy – out into our fields where, each year, we watch and hear the birds perform. This is one of our longest running and most popular events. Hope to see you there!

Cost: $10 per person

Age: Adults and children ages 12 and up, accompanied by an adult

Weather policy: Date and time subject to change dependent on weather. Please check your email for updates on the morning of the event.

COVID-19 information: This program will occur entirely outside and is limited to 30 people – we will split into 3 groups with a maximum of 10 people per group. We will practice social distancing and wear masks, so please bring one with you. Please DO NOT attend if you or anyone in your household has experienced any symptoms related to the coronavirus in the last two weeks. The farmhouse will be closed.

Cancellation policy: No refunds will be given upon registrant cancellation. Refunds will only be given in the event that The Clifton Institute cancels the program. If you register and can no longer attend this event, please let us know as soon as possible. Due to smaller group size limits imposed due to COVID-19, many of our events have waitlists, and a few ‘no-shows’ have a significant impact.

What to wear: Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

What to bring: Mask (required), bottle of water, flashlight, portable chair
