SUMMARY:Intro to Sedges
DESCRIPTION:Sedges are one of the most diverse and ecologically important plant groups in Virginia. There are 201 species just in the genus Carex in the state! But what are sedges and how can they be identified? Join sedge expert Greg Chapman to get answers to these questions and more\, as we partner with Virginia Working Landscapes to get more familiar with these plants! \nThere will be a short lecture followed by a walk to practice finding and identifying sedges in the wild. The walk may be up to a mile over variable terrain. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and bring drinking water. \nCost: Free! \nAge: This program is intended for an adult audience. Interested children accompanied by an adult are welcome to attend. \nWeather policy: Rain or shine except in case of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorm). Please check your email for updates on the morning of the event. \nCOVID-19 Information: This program will be mainly outdoors (an outside porta potty will be available).
