DESCRIPTION:Both beginner and experienced birders will enjoy this guided 1-2 mile hike to look for the many species of birds that can be found on the field station. We will explore successional fields\, meadows\, lake edges\, and forest. DESCRIPTION:From Co-Director Eleanor Harris: Nature journaling is my favorite hobby\, a great way to spend time outside\, and a powerful tool for learning about nature. I want to help develop the community of nature journalers in our area and to encourage more people to start their own nature journals. Whether you have been nature journaling for years or have never nature journaled before but want to try it out\, this event is for you! I’ll give a very brief introduction to nature journaling before we go for a walk on our beautiful 900-acre property. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk on our trails with one our naturalists. In August we will be focusing on the weather! Habitat Specialist and weather enthusiast Andrew Eberly will talk a bit about the Virginia’s summer weather and then will narrate some of the afternoon’s weather phenomena on the walk. We focus so much on plants and animals that it’s sometimes easy to forget about the weather that keeps our ecosystem going\, so this is a great opportunity to learn about an underappreciated subject. SUMMARY:Nature Camp For Grownups
DESCRIPTION:Hey grownups! Have you ever wished you could come to one of our nature camps? Well\, now you can! This August we are offering our second annual weekend-long Nature Camp for Grownups. Activities will start on the morning of August 27\, go through a campfire that night\, resume on the morning of August 28\, and conclude that afternoon. Activities will include nature walks\, nature journaling\, introductory lessons about Virginia’s plant and animals\, crafts\, and more. And of course we’ll be making friends and having fun the whole time! We’ll provide dinner and s’mores on Saturday night and some sweet treats and coffee on Sunday morning; you’ll bring bag lunches both days. All materials for crafts and other projects will be included. This is not sleep away camp – at least not yet – so you’ll go home to your own bed on Saturday night. \nTimes: 10:00AM – 9:00PM on August 27 and 10:00AM to 5:00PM on August 28 \n\nCost: $125 ($100 for Friends of the Clifton Institute). \n\n\nAge: Adults only. \n\n\nBring: Lunch\, snacks\, water bottle\, a nature journal if you have one. \n\n\nWeather policy: Rain or shine except in case of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorm or significant snow fall). \n\n\nCOVID-19 Information: This program will be entirely outdoors (an outside porta potty will be available). We require that everyone have a mask with them in case we need to go inside during inclement weather\, to administer first aid\, or for other reasons.
